Nebraska Wins Third Four-State Championship in Four Years

MARSHALLTOWN (July 1, 2022) – Team Nebraska continues their dominance in the Girls' Four-State Championship with their third win in four years.

In the first Singles match, Emily Karmazin fell to an early deficit down 3 through 3 holes. Karmazin entered the back nine down 2 and fought back to win 5 of the next 7 holes. She arrived at No. 18 tee with a 1 up lead and both players made par for Karmazin's huge comeback win and Team Nebraska their first point in singles matches.

Team Nebraska's second point of the day came from Katie Ruge in which the soon-to-be Kansas Jayhawk never trailed and closed her match out on No. 17 with a 2&1 victory. Averi Mickelson of Team Kansas tied the match for the first time on No. 15 and Ruge bounced back with two pars to inch Team Nebraska toward another Four-State title.

The final two points for Team Nebraska came from Kaitlyn Hanna and Karsen Morrison in which both teammates were headed back to the clubhouse after No. 16 with dominant victories to seal the victory. Hanna's match was tied going to the back nine and the soon-to-be Iowa Hawkeye won 5 of the next 7 holes to earn another point for Team Nebraska with a 4&2 victory. Morrison held a 3 up lead heading into the back nine after firing a 36 (+1) on the front.
